AliasVault has crossed 3.000 GitHub stars!

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project. More and more people are using AliasVault in their daily lives, the community continues to grow, and we're getting closer step by step to our first v1.0 stable release.

Since reaching 2.000 stars, we have shipped a lot of new features and improvements. Here's a quick look at what's changed:

What's new

We have published several new updates in the last months. Since reaching 2.000 GitHub stars in February, the following new features and improvements have been added:

  • Passphrases
    • In addition to generating random character passwords, you can now generate strong passphrases based on language dictionaries (multiple supported), to make manually typing in passwords easier.
  • Import full vaults from existing password managers:
    • Supports importing 1Password .1pux, Bitwarden .zip and Proton Pass .zip, on top of existing CSV imports.
  • Encrypted vault exports:
    • Generate .avex and .avux exports via the web app, allowing you to create a encrypted export of your full AliasVault for switching between cloud-hosted and self-hosted, as well as for manual backup and safekeeping purposes.
  • Usability updates:
    • Autofill 2FA codes via the browser extension, and automatically copy 2FA codes to the clipboard when using autofill in the mobile apps.
    • Add support for nested subfolders
    • Add support for passive passkey autofill in browser extension
    • Android autofill suggestions in keyboard integration
    • Add duplicate credential option to all apps
  • Self-hosted improvements:
    • Add TLS support to email server
    • Custom proxy header support
    • Rate limiting
  • Even more languages: thanks to your help, AliasVault added Swedish, Irish, Hungarian as app languages, as well as several new languages to the identity generator and passphrase generator. AliasVault is now officially available in (18) different languages!

Thanks to the community!

None of this would be possible without all of the support of our cloud and self-hosted users. We're grateful for everyone who uses and believes in AliasVault. We appreciate all your help, whether it's by reporting bugs, sharing feature improvement ideas, helping with translations, sharing AliasVault with your friends & family, starring us on GitHub, etc.

It's really great to see more people talking about AliasVault and recommending it to others. Every contribution helps us keep improving AliasVault.

What's Coming

Read up on our mission and roadmap to see where AliasVault is headed.

In the last 3 months, we have been working on large changes behind the scenes that will make syncing vaults up to 10x faster, allow to have more primary authentication mechanisms besides a master password, enable sharing vaults with family members (while still having full encryption), and many more. The changes we're making require refactoring and rewriting over 50% of all existing core systems. This is a big undertaking, therefore we're taking the time to test these changes thoroughly before releasing them. Once this new structure is in place, future updates will become a lot easier and it will allow us to make AliasVault even more powerful.

If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to join our Discord, create a feature request on GitHub, or contact us via email.
